Q105: What are the sins forbidden in the first commandment?
A105 The sins forbidden in the first commandment are,
  1. (Psa 14:1) . . . The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good.

(Eph 2:12) remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

  2. (Jer 2:27-28) Who say to a tree, 'You are my father,' And to a stone, 'You gave me birth.' For they have turned their back to Me, And not their face; But in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise and save us.' "But where are your gods Which you made for yourself? Let them arise, if they can save you In the time of your trouble; For according to the number of your cities Are your gods, O Judah.

(1Th 1:9) For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,

  3. (Psa 81:11) "But My people did not listen to My voice, And Israel did not obey Me.

  4. (Isa 43:2, 23-24) "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you. . . . "You have not brought to Me the sheep of your burnt offerings, Nor have you honored Me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, Nor wearied you with incense. "You have bought Me not sweet cane with money, Nor have you filled Me with the fat of your sacrifices; Rather you have burdened Me with your sins, You have wearied Me with your iniquities.

  5. (Jer 4:22) "For My people are foolish, They know Me not; They are stupid children And have no understanding. They are shrewd to do evil, But to do good they do not know."

(Hos 4:1, 6) Listen to the word of the LORD, O sons of Israel, For the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land, Because there is no faithfulness or kindness Or knowledge of God in the land. . . . My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

  6. (Jer 2:32) "Can a virgin forget her ornaments, Or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me Days without number.

  7. (Act 17:23,29) "For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. . . . "Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man.

  8. (Isa 40:18) To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him?

  13. (2Ti 3:2) For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

  14. (Php 2:21) For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.

  15. (1Jn 2:15-16) Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

(1Sa 2:29) 'Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?'

(Col 2:2,5) that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, . . . For even though I am absent in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good discipline and the stability of your faith in Christ.

  16. (1Jn 4:1) Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

  17. (Heb 3:12) Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God.

  30. (Jer 17:5) Thus says the LORD, "Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the LORD.

  31. (2Ti 3:4) treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

  32. (Gal 4:17) They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.

(Joh 16:2) "They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God.

(Isa 1:4-5) Alas, sinful nation, People weighed down with iniquity, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the LORD, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have turned away from Him. Where will you be stricken again, As you continue in your rebellion? The whole head is sick And the whole heart is faint.

  36. (Rom 10:13-14) for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?

(Hos 4:12) My people consult their wooden idol, and their diviner's wand informs them; For a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, And they have played the harlot, departing from their God.

(Act 10:25-26) When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter raised him up, saying, "Stand up; I too am just a man."

(Rev 19:10) Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, "Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

And his servants said to him, "Behold, there is a woman who is a medium at En-dor." . . . Then the woman said, "Whom shall I bring up for you?" And he said, "Bring up Samuel for me."

(1Ch 10:13-14) So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD which he did not keep; and also because he asked counsel of a medium, making inquiry of it, and did not inquire of the LORD. 42. (Psa 73:2-3, 13-15, 22) But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, my steps had almost slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant as I saw the prosperity of the wicked. . . . Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence; For I have been stricken all day long And chastened every morning. If I had said, "I will speak thus," behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children. . . Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.
