Q4: How doth it appear that the scriptures are the word of God?
A4: The scriptures manifest themselves to be the word of God, by their majesty [1] and purity;[2] by the consent of all the parts,[3] and the scope of the whole, which is to give all glory to God;[4] by their light and power to convince and convert sinners, to comfort and build up believers unto salvation:[5] but the Spirit of God bearing witness by and with the scriptures in the heart of man, is alone able fully to persuade it that they are the very word of God.[6]
  1. (Hos 8:12) Though I wrote for him ten thousand precepts of My law, They are regarded as a strange thing.

    (1Co 2:6) Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;

    (1Co 2:7) but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;

    (1Co 2:13) which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

    (Psa 119:18) Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law.

    (Psa 119:129) Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul observes them.

  2. (Psa 12:6) The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.

    (Psa 119:140) Your word is very pure, Therefore Your servant loves it.

  3. (Act 10:43) "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

    (Act 26:22) "So, having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, stating nothing but what the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place;

  4. (Rom 3:19) Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God;

    (Rom 3:27) Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.

  5. (Act 18:28) for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

    (Heb 4:12) For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

    (Jas 1:18) In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

    (Psa 19:7) The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

    (Psa 19:8) The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

    (Psa 19:9) The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.

    (Rom 15:4) For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

    (Act 20:32) "And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

  6. (Joh 16:13-14) "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.

    (Joh 20:31) but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

    (1Jn 2:20, 27) But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. . . As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him..
