Q3: What is the word of God?
A3: The holy scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God,[1] the only rule of faith and obedience.[2]
-
- (2Ti 3:16) All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
- (2Pe 1:19-21) So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
-
- (Eph 2:20) having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,
- (Rev 22:18-19) I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
- (Isa 8:20) To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.
- (Luk 16:29, 31) "But Abraham *said, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.'. . . "But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'"
- (Gal 1:8-9) But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!
- (2Ti 3:15) and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
